Why Thermal Over Night Vision

Night vision shows shapes.
Thermal shows targets.

01

Hogs run at night

Wild hogs are nocturnal in most of their range. If you can't see in the dark, you can't hunt them efficiently. Thermal isn't a luxury for hog hunting — it's the difference between a productive night and an empty stand.

02

Identify before you shoot

Night vision shows you a shape. Thermal shows you a heat signature. Hog, coyote, deer, or someone's dog — you know before the trigger pulls. 3× zoom helps you confirm sounder size at distance.

03

Document the night

On-board photo and video. Save the kill, send proof to the rancher, build a record of your hunt. Most thermals in this price range can't do it.

Field Tested

South Texas, May.
3 hunters, 6 nights.

We sent Merlin to a working hog-control operation outside Cotulla. Six consecutive nights, three operators, two ranches totaling 4,200 acres. Mixed terrain — mesquite, sendero, cleared pasture.

Result: 38 hogs taken. The 3× zoom was the difference on three separate stalks where 1× would have ended in walking into the sounder.
